Hello there! I’m David Cruz, a film wedding photographer and a Oaxaca, Mexico native and I'm currently based in Downtown Los Angeles. First I’d like to say thank you for taking interest in my work and I’m incredibly happy to welcome you into the Synthetic Color family. It’ll be an honor to be trusted with the responsibility of photographing your wedding. My goal during our time together is to make you feel calm, collected and at home with everything I do, not just in my work but through out the entire planning process and most importantly, your wedding day. It’s why I believe that we must click well together and because you’re here now, we’re probably a perfect match.

Why do I still use film? Drawing from my roots back home, my photographic style is cinematic and natural, film achieves the aesthetically soft & dreamy look I love in fine art portraits. Aside from the magical quality of exposing an image on a negative and waiting for it to be developed into a tangible photograph, film possesses even more magic in the way in renders light. In the process of shooting film, I’m able to be fully present with you at every moment, without being the conflict of looking at back of a digital camera. Additionally, film photographers have been shown to be expert photographers. Why? We have to get every photo exactly right in camera, as each photo is permanently burned onto film with no choice of deleting the image later. Which means there’s a great deal of knowledge and experience behind the craft of a film photographer.

Don’t get me wrong though, I love digital photography as well. I understand and appreciate both formats and will use both of them appropriately. Film is fan-freaking-tastic for fine art portraits, details and when there’s an abundance of natural light to work with. However, digital cameras are perfect for low lit venues, dark churches and indoor receptions.

I’m more than eager to meet you and help you plan the wedding of your dreams. I ask that you please browse through my online portfolios, links can be found below, in which I post additional wedding planning tips along with shenanigans around Southern California and current editorials. If you see we’re a match aesthetically, I’d love to hear from you! And don’t let the axe fool you, it’s made out of plastic.

I’m a proud supporter of local small businesses as well as products made in U.S.A. Though the U.S. does not manufacture cameras, I'm happy to support these made in American brands that help me produce the beautiful imagery you see in my portfolio. Film Stocks: Kodak Portra 400| Kodak Portra 160 | Kodak Gold Max. Camera Straps: Tap & Dye | Gordy's. Camera Bags: Domke. Film Processing & Printing: Color Services. Album Printing: PixiBind. Furthermore, I use only marketing and packaging materials made from recycled paper goods. My Nikon F5, Nikon F100 and Nikon D200 run on rechargeable batteries as well as get serviced by a local camera repair shop in Montebello, CA, Canada Camera. Please note, when you book me, you too are saying yes to keeping manufacturing jobs here in America as well as your dollar.

After spending hours and sleepless nights over the past years looking for a luxury album company that stands out from the rest, I'm happy to announce I've found a company who's product line I can call my own and officially introduce our collection of flagship fine art linen albums. Tucked away in an industrial area of Glendale California, this little photo lab produces custom flush-mount albums using traditional bookbinding methods for select few photographers. Creating one of kind, hefty, rigid and elegant albums that will last for generations to come. Creating your first heirloom as a newly wed couple. Photo pages are printed on the coveted Fujifilm Luster Type PD paper, the same paper I print your proofs on. In proper conditions, these prints and print pages will last you at least 100yrs. The new line will be available in square sizes of eight, ten & twelve inches, eight luxurious covers, dust jacket and cameo options. Pictured here is a 10x10 album in a Natural cover along a companion 8x8 guestbook.
